MEET SANDIE WALKER
Sandie Walker is a lifelong resident of York City with a deep commitment to public service, youth empowerment, and community advocacy.
A 2001 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, Sandie played Division I women’s basketball at the University of Richmond, where she earned a dual degree in Leadership Studies and Urban Practice & Policy, with a minor in Business Administration. In 2005, she was recognized as the University of Richmond’s Volunteer Student of the Year.

After college, Sandie returned to York City and began her career in public service. She worked as a Health Education Specialist with the York City Health Bureau before transitioning to the role of Youth Program Coordinator for the City of York, where she served for nearly five years. Dedicated to youth development, she also founded and co-directed Y.O.R.K. (Youth Obtaining Respect & Knowledge), a summer travel and community service program designed to expand opportunities for local teens. From 2005 to 2011, she coached junior high and varsity girls basketball at William Penn Senior High School and revived the Boys Club Girls Basketball Feeder Program

Her passion for education and community leadership led her to serve six years as a director for the School District of the City of York. After completing her elected term, she volunteered to fill a vacant board seat following a member’s resignation. She currently works as a Parent Liaison for the district, continuing her advocacy for students and families.

In local government, Sandie made a significant impact during her tenure on York City Council, where she most recently served as President. During her time on Council, she chaired the Public Works, Business Administration, and Fire/Police Committees. Her leadership earned her recognition as the 2018 York County Economic Alliance’s Elected Official of the Year and one of York County’s most influential people in politics in 2023.

Now, as a candidate for Mayor of the City of York, Sandie remains steadfast in her commitment to advocating for the citizens of York City. She considers it both an honor and a privilege to serve and is dedicated to fostering a stronger, more connected community.

At the core of everything she does, Sandie’s faith in God serves as her foundation and guiding force. She firmly believes that if God is for her, who can be against her and that only what she does for Christ will last. This belief shapes her choices and decisions, ensuring that her leadership remains rooted in integrity, service, and a deep sense of purpose.
